The massive 420,000-square-foot roof atop Food Services of America’s (FSA) Woodburn, Oregon, distribution center was falling apart. Seam failures on the ballasted roof were tearing as fast as 50 feet per week. The building, essentially a giant cooler that consistently hovers around -8 degrees Fahrenheit, needed a new, reliable roof to battle rising cooling costs and ensure the safety of materials and people inside.
Basle is "the" Art City in Switzerland. The numerous museums of classical and contemporary art attract hundreds of thousands of visitors. It is also where the "Art" is staged every year, the biggest art fair in the world. Culture in general and the fine arts in particular have a long tradition at the Rhine bend. It is supported here equally by the public and by politics. So it's no wonder that a project was possible in Basle which would have had no chance anywhere else: The City Sky. The Christophe-Merian Trust, the Basle City Canton and a lottery fund support this art and culture project of the initiator and organizer Klaus Littmann.
The sanitation costs for tiled rooms after a burst pipe or water damage often soar due to the need for re-tiling. This means high additional costs for insurance companies and house owners. Although only a few tiles may have been damaged, a complete re-tiling is often necessary in the sanitation because the old tiles are out of stock and no longer available.
Successful implementation of a business idea.
Turkey is a sea-faring nation with a millennium of shipbuilding behind it. In a nondescript industrial building, typical of the more prosperous areas of Istanbul, innovative products have been created for the past five years: «Turbotsan » has been building boats made entirely from plastic. The original idea came to Burcin Yaslan, the owner of «Turbotsan», thanks to his exposure to inflatable Zodiac boats. He wanted his boat design to be sturdier than the German originals. The question, however, was which tools to use to weld the plastic and how could the critical weld quality be achieved? He who seeks shall find: Burcin Yaslan came across Tokgöz-Makina, and subsequently discovered the perfect tools for his application from Leister, which he could use to turn his dreams into reality. Leister sales partner for Turkey, Mahzar Tokgöz, carried out welding trials with Burcin Yaslan and introduced him to Leister’s innovative extrusion welding technology. Following this introduction to Leister, the first boat was successfully fabricated and floated. From a spill dating back to the 1970s, Togiak Fisheries was faced with 70,000 tons of diesel- and gasoline-contaminated soil on the shores of Togiak Bay, Alaska. Click image to enlarge.
The sheikdom on the Persian Gulf is developing into the Pearl of the Orient. More than anything, tourism is expected to have a long-term beneficial impact on its economic future. The goal is to entice 15 million tourists a year to this balmy world on the Gulf by 2015. That is triple the number of tourists that visit the Gulf today. Vast numbers of mega-projects are being worked on with unbridled enthusiasm. Evidence of the building boom is everywhere. One sixth of all the cranes being used in the world today, are currently in use in Dubai. We have seen pictures of them already, the architectural giants in Dubai: the three «Palms» and «The World», giant island worlds built in the ocean, which have been developed at an unprecedented expense. Or the «Burj al Arab», the one and only seven-star hotel in the world. Or the «Burj Dubai», which, when completed, will be the tallest building in the world at 818 metres high. In this small desert state, another extremely ambitious site is being built, «The Lagoons».
The Achievement “Thanks to the professional team at STANMECH , we are saving time, money and raising the quality of our product,” says Sylvain Plourde, president of Les Trois Mousquetaires, a beer manufacturer in Brossard, Quebec. Click image to enlarge.
Working around the clock
On the 13th of July 2001, Peijing was selected by the IOC to host the Olympic Games 2008. Thereby Peking prevailed against the contenders Paris, Toronto, Osaka and Istanbul. Within less than a year, on August 8th 2008 the competitions start, and which are being awaited with great suspense. Huge construction sites still dominate the picture at the future scenes. There is intense activity everywhere. 30 000 workers are working day and night so that the planned Olympic locations will be finished according to schedule. In spite of the great time pressure, the responsible people are confident that all construction work will be completed by the end of this year. Automation ensures consistent quality and saves personnel costs. For example, one plastics technician could be saved for each injection moulding machine thanks to automated hot air deburring of thermoplastic parts. The hot air components from Leister Process Technologies automatically regulate process parameters, such as temperatures and application time of the hot air jet – precisely and comprehensibly. This shows a positive effect in the profitability calculation.
The new filling plant of the established Swiss drinks producer «Elmer Citro» achieves a capacity of up to 20000 bottles per hour. Prior to labelling the bottles, which have been filled and sealed, need to be dried. A drying system developed especially for this purpose blows the water away in uniform coalescent drops. Leister Process Technologies, the supplier of the drying system, is the worldwide leader in industrial hot air technology. Click image to enlarge.
